Khorii Hunter Tinson

movement artist, teacher, budding musician/producer, filmmaker, student, black woman, citizen, [ ].

I am Khorii Tinson (she/her/hers), roots from Atlanta, Georgia, currently located in Tallahassee, Florida as a second year Master’s of Fine Arts in Dance Candidate at Florida State University, class of 2026. I have my Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance and Choreography from The University of Texas at Austin, conferred May of 2020. During my time at UT, I worked with and performed in pieces by renowned artists such as Rennie Harris, Charles O. Anderson, Gesel Mason, Jenn Freeman, Courtney Mazeika, Bridget Moore, and many others.

My most recent performance credits include premiering my first self-choreographed and sonically produced solo “12” for the Spring 2024 Days of Dance show at Florida State, as well as a poling solo “I AM”, as a part of a larger four-solo work titled “Under the Stars, There is a Heaven”, choreographed by Kehinde Ishangi for Evening of Dance 2024. Additionally, I was a part of FSU’s re-staging of Jawole Willa Jo Zollar’s 1998 work “Give Your Hands To Struggle” for An Evening of Dance (FSU) in Fall of 2023.

I joined acclaimed choreographer and artist Gesel Mason’s company, Gesel Mason Performance Projects (GMPP) in 2021 for Mason’s work “Yes, And.”. Most recent credits with the company include a retreat experience and performance in Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, Caribbean in the early summer of 2024, as well as the 2024 Fusebox Festival Exhibition in Austin, Texas at The Contemporary Museum, and the Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, Maine.

Dance is a necessity for me. An act of self preservation, and a practice of showing up for my community and my self. To be an Artist is to be a holder of truth and a reformer of boundaries. I am committed to dance and what it takes to be a (movement) artist; which is to me, striving to be embodied and conscious, and to deeply investigate over and over and over how to show up as myself while learning and dreaming and staying inspired. My work stretches from being heavily rooted in politics and racial & socio-economic affairs that stretch beyond the walls of America to talking about the dualities of life, complexities of love, ordinary life experiences. Right now, my work is influenced by US-American politics pertaining to policing and militarism, as well as our foreign policy values. I aim to engage in these conversations from a new perspective and challenge the audience and myself to think about the part we are playing in this world. We all have a responsibility, to each other and the universe.
